Where to sow
Sow early sowings under glass into pots or trays and cover the seed with a sprinkling of compost or vermiculite. Sow outdoor sowings thinly, 1.5cm (1/2") deep in drills 30cm (12") apart in soil raked to a fine tilth. Water regularly, especially in dry periods.
What to do next
Transplant early sowings into individual pots and grow on under glass until April, then harden off in a cold frame and plant out at 25-30cm (10-12") apart and 45cm (18") between rows. Once large enough carefully life outdoor sowings and transplant to the above spacings using a trowel or dibber, and water in.
