The traditional flower used in wedding button holes, the flowers of Carnation Hardy Border Mixed may not be quite as tightly double as the annual types but they are full of fragrance, and in milder areas they can be a fully perennial variety. This plant will flower from May to September at an approximate height of 35-40cm.

January to May.
WHERE TO SOW
Early sowings in pots or trays under glass at 18°C (65°F) under a light covering of vermiculite or compost. Later sowings in trays in a cold frame.
WHAT TO DO NEXT
Seedlings under glass should be pricked off into trays 10cm (4") apart. When seedlings are about 8cm (3") tall, transplant to the flowering site 25cm (10") apart.
MATURITY
July onwards.
