Description

Shallots can be used in a variety of dishes and meals. They are especially tasty when added whole to a winter casserole! Zebrune has a good resistance to bolting, and produces long brown bulbs which are tinged with pink. They are best grown on well-drained soil in a lovely sunny location. .

Where to sow

Direct sow shallots outdoors in well drained soil from late March to April in full sun. Sow thinly at a depth of 1cm (1/2") 30cm (12") between rows.

What to do next

When large enough to handle, thin shallots seedlings to 4cm (1 1/2". Cover with protective netting or fleece.
